World heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has narrowly escaped death following a tragic road accident that occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, around the Makun axis.
The unfortunate incident claimed the lives of two individuals, while others sustained injuries of varying degrees. Anthony Joshua was reportedly travelling from Lagos to Sagamu alongside three other occupants when the crash occurred.
Preliminary findings reveal that the two victims who lost their lives were male foreign nationals, both of whom died instantly at the scene. Their remains have since been transferred to the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu for preservation.
Anthony Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were swiftly rescued by members of his security detail and taken to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention. They are currently receiving treatment and are said to be in stable condition.
Further reports indicate that the sport utility vehicle (SUV) conveying the passengers collided with a stationary truck parked along the expressway. The heavily damaged SUV has been evacuated to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division (MTD), while arrangements are underway to tow the truck involved to aid ongoing investigations.
The incident has been described as deeply distressing, particularly due to the loss of lives. Authorities confirmed that those injured are receiving appropriate medical care.
Motorists have been advised to remain vigilant and strictly observe traffic regulations, especially during the festive period when road usage is typically high. Security agencies and road safety officials have also been encouraged to intensify monitoring and enforcement to ensure safer travel conditions.
As investigations continue, sympathies have been extended to the families of the deceased. Prayers have also been offered for the repose of the departed souls and for the speedy recovery of those injured.
